You’ll do all of this whilst enjoying the sight of the breath-taking turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea and exploring through the wilderness of the mangroves in the majestic Nichupte Lagoon. The El Rey Ruins are a spectacular archaeological site in Cancun, with nearly 50 structures estimated to have been inhabited by the Ancient Mayans as early as 900 AD. There are two primary platforms and temples within the Ruins, believed to be the remains of religious ceremonial buildings and market areas. El Rey was named for the ceremonial mask and skull found on site to honour the Mayan Sun God and, over the years, further excavations have incited speculation over the history of the ruins. Although the El Rey ruins are not as large in size when compared to the Chichen Itza, they’re still a huge part of the tourism in Mexico. Visitors enjoy taking pictures of the hundreds of Iguanas that call the ruins their home. The iguanas are unafraid of humans and are familiar with having their picture taken. This tour is definitely one for those who want to see some of the Ancient Mayan history from a unique viewpoint, as well as take to the Caribbean Sea whilst doing so.
