Introduction to Maspalomas

Maspalomas has perhaps the most beautiful beaches on Gran Canaria. Its 3km of Sahara like sand dunes and beaches lapped by intensity blue sea are a paradise for sun worshippers, there’s a waterpark and an 18 hole golf course and shopping opportunities abound in the commercial centres which offer a good choice of duty free goods. Just a short bus or taxi ride away in playa Del Ingles you will find a wide variety of evening entertainment.

The area is an eclectic mix of luxury hotels, theme-parks and golf courses, protected nature reserves and desert-like sand dunes. Traverse the expansive sands of the national park by camel, go bird-watching at sea-water lagoon La Charca or visit the Faro de Maspalomas, a 65ft high lighthouse that dates back to 1886. Or, for larger-than-life entertainment and thrills, try the island’s biggest water-park, Aqualand Maspalomas, or Wild West themed adventure-land Sioux Park. The main beach is a beautiful stretch of fine white sand equipped with sun-loungers, showers and water-sports centres and roughly divided into sections for families and nudists. Backed by a busy promenade of restaurants, bars and shops, tourists linger over long, lazy days at the water’s edge
