Nice

An ideal city break location, Nice on the southern Mediterranean coast of France, boasts a wonderful climate, a popular stretch of beach, a superb promenade to people watch from, as well as a host of modern facilities and shops set in historic surroundings. Nice is set on the Baie des Anges about 30 km along the coast from Cannes and about 15 minutes drive from Nice Airport. Take a stroll down Nice’s Promenade des Anglais which is lined with palm trees, with the glorious blue Mediterranean Sea glittering to the south and a host of interesting hotels and restaurants to the north, stretching for nearly five kilometres.

Top 3 Things to do in Nice.

Colline du Château
The first part of Nice to be settled was the Colline du Château (castle hill, 92m/302ft high), which can be reached by elevator from the shore promenade (Quai des Etats-Unis) at the end of the Baie des Anges. The area at the top has been laid out as a park and offers an impressive panorama (orientation table). The citadel which once stood here was destroyed in 1706. Worth seeing are the remains of two churches built one above the other in the 11th and 15th C., which have now been excavated. Just to the east of the remains there is a good view of the harbor below.

Promenade des Anglais
Few spots epitomize Nice (or, in fact, the joie de vivre of the French Riviera in general) than the inviting Promenade des Anglais. It is always bustling with humanity. There are tourists relaxing in the royal blue chairs lining the shore. There are locals roller blading, biking or jogging along it. Vendors sell crepes and drinks on it. Best of all, there are delightful (if over-priced) seaside restaurants. Splurge on a chaise lounge, and let waiters bring you cocktails and appetizers.

Zone Pietonne
The Nice pedestrian zone, or "zone pietonne," is a hub of activity. This is the place if you need to load up on souvenirs. Street entertainers frequent this area. There are gourmet shops, clothing shops, news stands, bookstores and more. (Check out the Ducs de Gascogne store for some real finds). Grab a café au lait and watch the world go by, nibble on a crepe, or visit in the evening for a robust meal with an Italian accent. This is just a lively spot!
