Things to do in Majorca
Majorca is full of things to see and do. Relax by the seaside, of course and enjoy the beach. Once you’re done relaxing, why not try a little culture? The island is full of sights like the heritage of Palma but also less obvious destinations like the historic town of Arta, a rustic hamlet tucked into green, rolling hills. Embark on a guided tour of the beautiful northern coast that takes in its top sights, beaches, local markets and scenery. Whatever your preference, you’re sure to find something to keep you entertained and busy whether it’s partying, shopping, wandering around a quaint fishing village or outdoor walks and hikes. If you’re seeking nightlife, try Magaluf for an all night party. Neighbouring Ibiza might have the reputation as a party-goers paradise but Majorca rivals it with nightclubs, pubs and bars to suit all.
Dining Out
Majorca has emerged as a real foodie destination in recent years. All kinds of international cuisine are on offer here and the local Majorcan fare has been revamped by passionate chefs. Familiar favourites are available around the main tourist areas but if you want to experience some more authentic cuisine then there’s plenty of that on offer, too. Tapas is a local fave and sharing this local fare is a great way to spend some time together. To save a little money, look out for restaurants displaying their menu del dia. These daily specials usually offer a three-course lunch with a drink for an affordable price. Majorcan food is Spanish-influenced with its own unique twists. A lot of pork, fish, vegetables, olive oil, garlic – it’s hearty, simply and good. For dessert try the local twist on the donut called Bunyols. Wine lovers just have to sample the many wines produced on the island, there are over 70 wineries right here that offer tours and tastings.
Majorca for Families
Majorca holidays are a perennial favourite of Irish families and it’s easy to see why. There are plenty of family-friendly resorts and hotels that cater to adults and kids alike with entertainment, food and facilities to suit all ages. Its picture-perfect scenery, sandy beaches and sunny weather make it a great place to bring to kids. And the island is home to several amazing waterparks and theme parks that make it a really family-friendly destination. Club Mac is one of the island’s most popular, a top destination in Alcudia. Katmandu Park in Magaluf also draws huge numbers of visitors each year seeking fun in the sun.
Best Beaches
Majorca is a true beach lover’s paradise with many certified Blue Flag beaches. Ibiza boasts 29 of the sought after seaside accolades. Crystal clear turquoise waters and sugary soft sands await. If you’re staying in a major area like Alcudia, there are plenty choose from – like the aptly named Alcudia Beach. Its clear, shallow waters make it a fine choice for families and you’ll find plenty of bars and cafes along the promenade too. Playa de Muro is a quieter alternative, with a similar range of cafes and shops nearby but not as busy as the better-known Alcudia Beach. Near the capital of Palma, there are a range of great beaches with a more urban feel, the perfect balance of city and sea. Portixol beach is just a 3km outside the city centre, too.
