Magic Towns

In this five hour tour we'll visit three villages in the area surrounding Huatulco. You'll get to meet local people and see how they live, work and prepare their food. First stop is the community of Piedra de Moros. Here we'll see how the local women prepare tortillas by hand and then bake them in a traditional comal or earthenware oven. Then we'll all sit down for a meal consisting of the freshly made tortillas, accompanied by a sauce made of roasted tomatoes together with tamales flavoured with beans and favourite local vegetable, chipilin. The next stop is the village of Pueblo Viejo, where we will visit a plantation of nopals, a type of cactus you may know as the prickly pear. Our final visit is the settlement of Limoncitos where we will learn how adobe, the most commonly building material used locally, is made. We will also make a stop at a handicraft store where you will have the opportunity to purchase locally made crafts such as bags, baskets and sombreros. This morning tour takes 5 hours, leaving at 09:00 and returning at 14:00 and includes hotel pick up and drop off, all transfers as well as the services of a bilingual guide. A meal of tortillas, nopals, tamales and water is also included. We suggest you wear comfortable shoes and that you bring sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, and some extra cash in case you want to purchase souvenirs.
