The Top 5 Unique Things to do in Bangkok

And now a message from our luxury offshoot, Classic Resorts. Classic Resorts specialises in luxury trips to far-flung destinations. See more about them here.

Bewitching Bangkok

There are plenty of things to do in Bangkok that everyone does. Taking a ride in a Tuk Tuk, visiting a floating market, getting a Thai massage, going to the (admittedly spectacular) Grand Palace and lively Khao San Road.

And it’s definitely worth doing those things, especially when it’s your first visit. But don’t miss out on all the amazing things to do in Bangkok which are a little more off the beaten track. This thriving, diverse, chaotic city is chock-full of quirky sights, unexpected delights and exciting discoveries. Do some of the things on this list and you’ll have plenty of stories to tell when you get back!

Jim Thompson House

The Jim Thompson House

Visit the home of a truly storied individual. Jim Thompson founded a major Thai silk company and earned plaudits for his contributions to his adopted homeland. After his mysterious disappearance, his home became a living museum. It’s a great place to see some incredible Thai architecture and hear some striking stories, too.

Golden Mountin

Get Some Peace & Quiet

Escape the hustle and bustle with a trip to one of Bangkok’s quiet spots. The Golden Mountain is just the ticket for this. This is a stunning place to walk, see the scenery and relax a bit. It’s not far from Khao San Road but feels a world away. Ring the bells along the walkway for good luck.

Wat Rathcanaddaram (Metal Castle)

Visit the Temple of Loha Prasat and Wat Rathcanaddaram

This is one of Bangkok’s less tourist-y destinations, which is surprising considering the spectacular beauty and unique design of these adjacent temples. Loha Prasat is also known as the Metal Castle, it’s the perfect place to experience a little solitude in this bustling city and its 37 glittering spires are truly a sight to behold. Venture to the top for amazing views.

Bang Krachao

Explore this Oasis of Green

Lumphini Park is often touted as Bangkok’s best green area, but there’s another, less well known slice of nature in Bang Krachao. This jungle like enclave is a surprising find in a city that has such a reputation for being no more than a concrete sprawl – it almost feels like an unspoilt island somewhere far away. You can reach it by boat near Wat Khlong Toey Nok Temple. It’s a great place to explore by bike for a while, with no skyscrapers in sight!

Dine in an Old Airplane

Chang Chui Market is worth a visit in its own right, but why not go dining in this refurbished abandoned plane while you’re there? The old aircraft is situated among the markets, stalls and artsy attractions. There are tons of creative and unique things to see and do while you’re here.
